The Van Alen Legacy is the fourth book in the Blue Bloods series written by Melissa de la Cruz. It continues the story of a group of young vampires known as the Blue Bloods, who are reincarnated souls that have been granted immortality. The book delves deeper into the history and mythology of the Blue Bloods, while also exploring themes of love, betrayal, and the struggle between good and evil.
The story picks up where the previous book, Revelations, left off. Schuyler Van Alen, the main protagonist, is still reeling from the death of her grandfather Lawrence Van Alen. She is determined to find out more about her family’s past and the mysterious Silver Bloods, a group of rogue vampires who feed on other vampires.
Schuyler’s best friend Oliver Hazard-Perry accompanies her to Venice, Italy, where they hope to find answers about her heritage. In Venice, they meet Allegra Van Alen, Schuyler’s estranged grandmother and a powerful vampire. Allegra reveals that Schuyler is not just any Blue Blood but a direct descendant of one of the most powerful vampire families in history.
Meanwhile, back in New York City, Mimi Force, Schuyler’s nemesis and member of one of the most influential vampire families, is dealing with her own problems. She has been appointed Regent of the Coven and must navigate the politics and power struggles within vampire society. Mimi is also torn between her duty to her family and her growing feelings for Jack Force, her soulmate who happens to be Schuyler’s forbidden love interest.
As Schuyler uncovers more about her family’s past, she learns about a prophecy that foretells the rise of a new leader among the Blue Bloods who will bring balance to their world. This leader is known as the “Van Alen Legacy.” Schuyler realizes that she may be the one destined to fulfill this prophecy, but she must first confront her own doubts and fears.
The narrative also follows other characters such as Bliss Llewellyn, a human girl who has been turned into a vampire against her will, and Kingsley Martin, a charismatic vampire with a dark secret. Their stories intertwine with Schuyler’s as they all face their own challenges and make choices that will shape their destinies.
The Van Alen Legacy is filled with twists and turns, as well as revelations about the true nature of the Blue Bloods and their purpose in the world. It explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the consequences of one’s actions. The book sets the stage for further developments in the series, leaving readers eager to find out what happens next.
Overall, The Van Alen Legacy is an engaging and suspenseful installment in the Blue Bloods series. It expands upon the mythology established in previous books while introducing new characters and plotlines. Melissa de la Cruz’s writing style keeps readers hooked from beginning to end, making it a must – read for fans of the series.

With the startling revelation surrounding Bliss’ true identity comes the growing threat of the evil Silver Bloods.
Once left to live the glamorous life in New York City, the Blue Bloods now find themselves in an epic battle for survival. Don’t worry, love is still in the air for the young vampires of the Upper East Side. Or is it? Jack and Schuyler are over. Oliver was heartbroken. And only the cunning Mimi seemed happily engaged.
Young, fangs and fabulous, Melissa de la Cruz’s vampires unite in the fourth installment of the best – selling Blue Bloods series.
The first part of this had a time jump and I think it helped the story have more action and catch on. Everyone is scattered, Schuyler and Oliver are on the run, Mimi and Kingsley hunt Jordan, and Bliss battles the enemy in her mind. I like the different settings and jump around the views.
I wasn’t very supportive of Jack and Schuyler, but they increasingly believed that I was a possible couple. What I really want is for Oliver to find someone else and not a second choice. He deserves better and is a good guy. Mimi is more agreeable in this part, she seems a bit more mature and I think Kingsley shows a more playful side of her. I’m looking forward to continuing the series and learning how the spin – offs come together with the universe.
I tackled this book so voraciously that I was sad when it ended. How can I wait another year for the next book. This is, by far, the best book in the series to date. Melissa used a slightly different writing style in this book by alternating chapters between Bliss, Schuyler, and Mimi. It left me on tiptoes and couldn’t stop reading. I like that there are a number of issues that have been resolved that I am concerned that Melissa will drag out. I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn’t read it. If you haven’t started the Blue Blood series, they’re awesome and I highly recommend you check them out. Although they are written for teenagers to read, I find them stimulating enough that adults will enjoy them too.
