The book certainly starts off slow, but it builds an incredible world with great care and thought. Really enjoyed the action and attention to detail that goes on as the massive battles unfold, as well as the care taken in expressing each character’s thoughts. The more industrial era in which the world is taking place is being refreshed and brought in new facets while maintaining the fantasy values of the genre. Lots of sure mystery and excitement leading to an exciting ending.

It takes a while to get started, but if you’re a fan of Anthony Ryan’s previous work, you’ll find a lot to love in this novel. Will absolutely take the next book to see where the story goes.
