Maine, 1846. Gabriel Stone is desperate to escape the ghosts that haunt him in Massachusetts after the death of his wife, so he moves to Maine, taking a position as pastor in the remote village of Pale Harbor.

But not all is as it seems in this sleepy town. Strange, disturbing things have been happening, and the townspeople think only one person is responsible: Sophronia Carver, a reclusive widow who lives with a single maid in the eerie Carver Castle. Sophronia must have been a witch and she almost certainly killed her husband.

As events escalate, one thing becomes clear: they are the work of a twisted man inspired by the wildly popular stories of Mr. Edgar Allan Poe. And Gabriel must find the answer, or Pale Harbor will suffer a fate worthy of Poe’s darkest stories.

A good book with historical fiction and an interesting twist on Poe’s stories. Choosing this book, I was hoping for scares, suspense, and something that would keep me up at night. The book overview makes it sound like it’s a haunted town but in reality when I read it, I just pictured an underfunded movie with bad acting. Don’t get me wrong, the story line is great, maybe I was too bitter to get over the fact that this is more of a love story than anything else.
