Review 1: The Winner’s Curse – Winner’s Trilogy Book 1 audiobook by Kimberley Foo
I was expecting more somehow. More strategizing and longer wow worthy moves by Kestral since everyone kept saying she was a strategic and intellegent, just more political movements that would impress me. Unfortunately, I didn’t get that as much as I got from The Goblin Emperor. Other than that, sure, it made me cry a bit, but I find that it was quite predictable in the romance department. I think I place that blame on how much other books I have already read though and a better neighbouring royalty as slaves romance (Captive Prince) that it kind of ruined this for me a bit. I especially really disliked how Kestral kept promising to be/do something but kept changing her mind, that was infuriating. But overall, it was okay I guess. I’ll probably continue just to see how it ends.

Surprised
I’ve been pretty turned off by YA fantasy novels lately, but thought I’d give this a go.
It was really good. Very well written. Great plot. Loved the characters, but I liked the male MC heaps more. I was rooting for him the entire time, plus he sounds pretty hot. His personality is just sooo, yum.
I usually give up YA books after book one, but I’m going to be listening to book two. Narrator did a great job as well.
If you like YA, or fantasy novels in general, give this a go. It’s very enjoyable.
Review 3: The Winner’s Curse – Winner’s Trilogy Book 1 audiobook by Jamie W.
The plot of this novel was astounding a extremely relevant in today’s social landscape and focus on slavery, whether in remembering it correctly in our history as well as paying attention to human trafficking. When I read through the descriptions of the lives stolen from the enslaved and how they were treated, my heart broke because I know it is not all fiction.
I like that Kestral isn’t a soldier savant. I like that she has limits to her abilities. A lot of times, in YA, the leading lady is always really talented in everything and picks things up quickly. I liked that Kestral was different and was powerful because of her intelligence and cunning wisdom. I loved her place in the story. I loved Arin! I loved how he maintained his spirit and vigor throughout his enslavement. Their relationship is a beautiful one and I can’t wait to see what happens!
