Along the way, Cogent discovers that the world is in danger from a powerful and malevolent force known as the Darkness, which threatens to destroy everything in its path.

With the help of her new friends and allies, including the wise and powerful wizard, the enigmatic clockwork being known as the Engineer, and the brave and loyal clockwork knight, Cogent must face the Darkness and save the world from destruction. Along the way, she learns more about her own identity and the true nature of the world around her, and must make difficult choices and sacrifices in order to fulfill her destiny.

In the Clockwork Boys sequel, Slate, Brenner, Caliban, and Learned Edmund travel to Anuket City, the origin of the mysterious Clockwork Boys. They even try to build trust in each other’s skills. That trust is built on quicksand as risks continue to escalate. But the secrets they hold could destroy them before the city has a chance…

Old enemies and consequences of past decisions lurk in the shadows. The skills of every team member are essential to success – even more so if they hope to survive.

Wonder Engine never lets us forget our funny, broken group even as the action pushes our heroes to new heights. It shows that making the most of the time you have left in your life can be very rewarding – no matter how many mechanical abominations you need to destroy to get there.

The Wonder Engine by T. Kingfisher is the second part of The Clockwork Boys. Not a sequel, Part Two. Don’t read them out of order.
This was a solid ending to the story and I liked it a lot more than the first part.
Wonder Engine is much more steampunk than The Clockwork Boys while still retaining much of the Dungeons and Dragons feel of the first film.
