The Xaros Reckoning: The Ember War, Book 9 is a science fiction novel written by Richard Fox. It is the ninth installment in the Ember War series, which follows the ongoing conflict between humanity and an alien race known as the Xaros. In this book, the war reaches its climax as both sides make their final moves to secure victory.

The story picks up where the previous book left off, with the human Alliance forces preparing for a massive assault on the Xaros stronghold. The Xaros, an advanced and relentless enemy, have been systematically wiping out entire star systems in their quest for domination. Led by Captain Valdar Nerion and his crew aboard the battleship Phoenix, the Alliance must rally all available forces to stop the Xaros before they destroy humanity.

The final battle begins.

Xaros Masters has destroyed Bastion, the Alliance against the alien invaders has failed. Earth resists the full force of the enemy’s endless fleet of drones.

With their backs against the wall, Captain Valdar and Breitenfeld must undertake one final mission to end the war against Xaros.

Can humanity pay the price for ultimate victory?

Although this book concludes the Ember War series, I guess this might just be the beginning as there seem to be a lot of counterpart universes that Richard Fox could explore – as shown in the story Post- Ember Armor. The best part about this series is that it is fun to read. The storyline is always moving forward and while some characters are annoying, others are so well done, you look forward to what the next book will bring. Easily one of the best Sci-Fi series in recent years… perhaps second only to David Weber’s Honor Harrington and Safehold series. Like Weber did with “Honorverse”, I could easily see Fox expanding this storyline to Hale’s exploits after the war, what happened to Terra Nova and like the previously mentioned Armor book that, a post-Ember Earth. If you’re looking for a fun, easy read, fast-paced read… this is a great read.
