This Side of the Grave/ Night Huntress, Book 5 – Audiobook Online
In This Side of the Grave, the fifth book of Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series, Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have triumphed over recent battles but face new challenges. With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors of a species war brewing, and tensions between vampires and ghouls, Cat and Bones must seek help from the dangerous ghoul queen of New Orleans. However, the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war.
The novel explores themes of loss, humanity, and emotional baggage for Cat as she deals with the fragility of existence and confronts her own issues. It also tackles racism as a parallel to real-world issues. The book is well-written with great lore, lots of action, and emotional depth that leaves readers reaching for tissues.
Danger lurks on both sides of the grave…
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband, Bones, fought for their lives as well as for their relationship. But just as they win their latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset the long-standing balance.
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a war between the species is taking place. A fanatic is inciting tensions between vampires and vampires, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the vampire queen of New Orleans. But the price for her help could be even more dangerous than the threat of a supernatural war—not to mention consequences Cat never imagined.
I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Night Huntres series. It also reminds me that I like this original series much more than the romance-based Night Huntress World. In this episode, Cat must face the fact that her Uncle Don is dying. There’s also a new enemy who is pushing vampires and ghouls into a deadly conflict with each other….he’s actually trying to incite them into a war that no one seems to be fighting. other want. After messing with the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans (who is truly a terrifying figure), Cat finds herself with new and terrifying powers that she must learn to use and deal with.
The relationship between Cat and Bones is strong and still interesting. Frost does a great job of keeping things hot and interesting between this couple. Now that romance readers can see it’s possible, maybe we’ll start to see this more in other series. They are very romantic but a lot of banter and play between them still exists. There’s a particularly funny and engaging scene where Bones tries to teach Cat to fly. Take my word for it, but you have to read it!
