To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a young adult romance novel written by Jenny Han. This is the first book in the series of the same name. Ali Ahn is satisfactory as the narrator of this book. While her male voice needs some work, it isn’t a big deal considering she does the main character well.

Lara Jean Song Covey is a sixteen-year-old living in Virginia. She is very close with her siblings, Margot and Kitty. Margot being the older one leaves for university in Scotland. As she goes, she breaks up with Josh, who was her boyfriend. He was also friends with Lara.

Lara Jean keeps love letters to all the boys that she has had a crush on. She keeps them in a hatbox that her late mother had given her. The mother died due to a head injury when Lara was only nine. Also, these letters that she has written are only for her eyes, as she pours her heart into them.

Lara also had a crush on Josh and as Margot leaves for school, she finds those feelings coming back to her. Josh also reveals to her that she was her first crush. However, Josh had asked out Margot instead. To cope with the feelings, she had written a letter when she was fourteen. Now, she writes a long postscript for that letter.

Lara was living quite an ordinary life. Everything changes when she can’t find her hatbox at home. The guys who she wrote about also seem to know about her letters. They all received those letters without her knowledge. Now, her imaginary love life is going out of control.

This book teaches us that love that persists and grows is very enchanting. It is a unique story with amazing characters. It is sweet, precious, and well worth the time listening to it.
