A Game of Thrones By George R. R. Martin ( Series: A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1)

George R. R. Martin starts the new series “A song of ice and fire” with a bang as the writer introduces a lot of characters, their motives and mysterious happening in a single flow in this first book.

The wonderful thing that has impressed the general public about the writer’s work since the very beginning is the complete portrayal of the characters whether they are primary characters or secondary ones they are dealt with a masterly touch and their personality is given equal time and importance, also you cannot consider any of these characters as useless as all are like players with their own particular tasks.

The story in this first part opens with King Robert Baratheon and talk about his allegiance. Later we are told about Eddard Stark and his family that include his wife, daughters, and son.

Toward the middle of the story, we are again struck by myths and mysterious murders that can shake the whole of the earth within no time. Each happening after that becomes momentous. The mysterious killing of Jon Arryn really brings the story to the next level as Robert also indulges himself in this affair as he was already riding north right from the beginning of the story.

All the kings and the swordsmen toward the end move toward the Winterfell where one can expect the real action would take place. Roy Dotrice has narrated this superb series in an excellent manner and no weakness can be found in the storyline as well as in the narration.

The series can be enjoyed more if read along with the next parts   A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords as the story is in continuation and one part can just arouse curiosity in your mind and you will always be thinking about the fate of the characters that are left incomplete in the first part.
