Pride – Adiobook Online
Pride – A Pride & Prejudice Remix, Adiobook Online By: Ibi Zoboi
In a timely update of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, National Book Award finalist Ibi Zoboi deftly balances cultural identity, class, and genocide against ghosts the passionate art of first love in this vivid rendition of this beloved classic.
A smart, funny, beautiful retelling of Pride and Prejudice starring all characters of color.
Don’t miss the audiobook read by Elizabeth Acevedo, the beloved author and narrator of Poet X, Odyssey Honor winner and AudioFile Headphone Award winner.
Zuri Benitez has pride. Pride of Brooklyn, pride of her family, and pride in her African-Latino roots. But pride may not be enough to save her quick chic neighborhood from becoming unrecognizable.
When the wealthy Darcy family moves across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, begins to fall for the charming Ainsley. She especially can’t stand the judgmental and arrogant Darius. However, when Zuri and Darius are forced to find common ground, their initial hatred turns into an unexpected understanding.
But with four wild sisters pulling her in different directions, cute boy Warren vying for her attention, and college applications hovering over the horizon, Zuri fights to find her place. in the changing landscape of Bushwick, or lose it all.
Ibi Zoboi’s Pride is a strong choice for summer reading and for sharing in the classroom or homeschooling.
I love how the author reveals the characters’ passion for the issues through her poetry. The complexities of cultural differences within the same ethnic group elicit great conversation. I loved the book so much that I bought two hard copies for my teenage daughter and her friend to read together. They are avid readers with a passion for poetry and teenage romance. I can’t wait to discuss the book with them.
What a wonderful story about love, family, family and friendship. What is really interesting is that the story is told through the voice of Elizabeth Acevedo. I reveled in it as if I was watching a good Netflix movie and was sad when it ended knowing that I had finished it. I will definitely be reading more books by Ibi Zoboi and lessons for many readings by Elizabeth Acevedo.
