Three Women and a Boat By: Anne Youngson – Audiobook Online

“Three Women and a Boat” by Anne Youngson follows the journey of Eve, Sally, and Anastasia as they navigate the canals of England between London and Chester. The story begins with the three women, who are strangers at first, coming together during pivotal moments in their lives. Eve has lost her job in engineering, Sally is leaving her marriage, and Anastasia needs a place to stay in London for cancer treatment.

As the women band together, they find themselves on a canal boat named Number One, tasked with ferrying it to Chester for repairs. Throughout the journey, they encounter challenges such as navigating locks and tunnels while living in close quarters. The narrative alternates between Eve and Sally’s perspectives as they reflect on their lives and contemplate their futures.

The book delves into themes of second chances, self-discovery, and the importance of human connection. Through encounters with colorful characters living along the canals, including Arthur, Billy, Trompette, and Noah the dog, Eve and Sally undergo personal growth and find new purpose in their lives.

A hugely engaging, authentic and uplifting story that shows it’s never too late for new adventures and unexpected friendships – for fans of Harold Fry, Dear Mrs Bird and The Librarian.

Meet Eve, who gave up her 30-year career to become a Free Spirit, Sally, who waved goodbye to her indifferent husband and two grown children, and Anastasia: a resident The defiantly independent narrowboat suddenly becomes vulnerable as she awaits life-saving surgery.

Inexperienced and ill-equipped, Sally and Eve embark on a journey through the canals of England, guided by the distant and unsympathetic Anastasia. As they glide gently – and not so gently – through the countryside, the oddities and challenges of life on a canal boat irresistibly draw them together and a story that is tender and unforgettable open.

Startlingly authentic and told with rare, surprising wit, Three Women and a Boat is a journey through England’s glorious waterways and into unknown depths. permeability of the human heart.

I was excited to read her second book after reading her first, Meet Me at the Museum.
Sadly, I was disappointed partly because my expectations were probably too high. The characters are shallow, the plot is nothing special, and the ending is predictable. The saving grace of this book is learning about narrowboats and looking them up on YouTube, then watching videos about them. Also discovered this book is sold under two titles.
