The best of an excellent trio. Dragons, lifeboats, pirates, re-creating the world and breaking tradition, reunion, loss, hope for the future. Ship of Destiny is everything you want from an epic fantasy novel full of related, lore.

Even when the characters are in conflict with each other, we know them so well that we can now see their point of view. The Vestrit family spends most of their time in this book beyond fulfilling their personal destinies and overcoming their youthful hopes and fears.

While I knew I was about to return to the Six Duchies and the world of Fitz and the Fool when I switched to the Tawny Man trilogy, I’m a bit sorry for the (current) loss of these characters and this world because I enjoyed watching it again a lot. I also can’t believe it took me so long to find the main connection between the Liveship Traders and Farseer books. Although I have read these books before, the link is still a gradual and wonderful revelation. A mark of excellent writing and endlessly rereadable.

I have read all three Liveship Traders books of which the Ship of Destiny is the third. Robin Hobbs is a wonderful and fascinating world of living characters (humans and others) who grow and develop as the story progresses. She does this with a skill and ease that is evident even more than that of George R R Martin. However, unlike George R R Martin, she doesn’t kill off the best characters but is able to weave a fascinating and surprising storyline in which all the characters and plot ends together. arrive at a satisfying solution. Fantasy storytelling at its best!
