A revolution in the Middle East has a direct and dangerous effect on the summer term at Meadowbank, a picturesque girls’ school in the English countryside. Prince Ali Yusuf, Sheikh Hereditary of Ramat, whose great liberalization experiment – hospitals, schools, the Department of Health – is in turmoil, knows that he must prepare for the day of exile.

He asked his pilot and classmate, Bob Rawlinson, to take care of a package of jewelry. Rawlinson did so, hiding them among the assets of his niece, Jennifer Sutcliffe, who worked for Meadowbank.

Rawlinson is killed before he can reveal his whereabouts – or even the fact that he hired his niece as a smuggler. Jennifer has jewels. When murder strikes Meadowbank, only Hercule Poirot can restore peace.
