Akiko, a scrawny Japanese woman struggling with bulimia, is being pressured by her childish husband to literally put some meat on her bones. How Jane and Akiko’s lives intersect in quirky cross-cultural collisions that deliver romance, humor, intrigue, and even a delightful message about questionable meat and American Wal-Martification .

“My Year of Meats” is an excellent book that follows the struggles of two women with their identities during a tumultuous year, all revolving around meat. All the characters are excellent, hero and villain, portraying a story of change and identity that I would recommend to anyone. My one word of caution is to prepare to go vegan after this book because there is no punching against the meat industry and those are unethical standards.
