Night Man is the first mystery novel in The Night Man Chronicles series by author Brett Battles.
Nate didn’t want to hear it. He was on missions and just wanted to relax, not have to travel hundreds of miles to track down the driver of the car that hit someone he didn’t even know.
Nate had hoped would be a simple quest that turned into something much more sinister. When he discovers a wide-ranging crime is raging in a small Northern California town. He will need all the skills learned while working in the dark world.

This is a great spin-off from Brett Battles’ Jonathan Quinn series. The main character in this new series is Jonathan’s partner, Nate.
At the beginning of this book, we see Nate disarming and tying up a group of men robbing fast supermarket stores. He’s not getting paid for this, he’s a vigilante. Who told him who needed protection? Of course his murdered girlfriend Liz. He knows when he hears her, it’s just his subconscious. he thought.
Nate still has a day job, but Liz sends him on a trip. A teenage girl was hit by a car. Everyone said it was an accident. Liz “tells” Nate that it’s not.
His quest requires using all of his skills and toys and a few friends he picked up while working with Quinn. Nate uncovers many secrets and too many rich men are willing to take advantage of young women who are greedy for money.
Lots of complicated planning and internal thought processes.
Zach Villa does an excellent job of narration.
