Nowhere to Run is the 10th mystery novel in the Joe Pickett series by author C. J. Box.
Joe Pickett was last week as interim game manager in Baggie Township, Wyoming, but strange things happened in the mountains and his conscience wouldn’t let him leave without leaving. don’t test them: reports of camps looted, tents slashed, elk slaughtered. An athlete simply disappears one day.

Joe isn’t afraid to admit that the further he goes, the more he wishes he could turn around and come home. What awaits him is unlike anything he’s ever dealt with, like something out of an old story, except this is too real and too dangerous. He thought this was his last patrol. What he didn’t know was how accurate that thought could become.

This book is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. I really like the way the main character, Joe Picket, handles all the situations he finds himself in. At the beginning of the book, the Wyoming Game Warden is looking for an elk that was shot and butchered before the hunters found it. Joe is packing his two horses with him investigating the mystery in the Sierra Madre Mountains. The story only gets better and better after this point. He gets entangled with twin brothers in the mountains and is wounded, narrowly escaping their clever and hostile actions. Throughout the book, Joe is determined to take revenge on the two brothers. But, hidden deep within the mountains, is another mystery that Joe must uncover.
The plot progresses with many important parts in the book. A missing girl in the same mountain range where Joe used to stay caused a stir in public opinion. A group of agents from Michigan have come to Wyoming in search of the twins. Later in the book, Joe discovers that the missing girl may be living with the brothers. Joe promises his wife that he will never come back and avenge the twins, but when the missing girl’s parents come and beg Joe to find their daughter, he decides that he must go back. The plot of this book kept my attention throughout the entire book and made me eagerly turn every page.

I have been to these mountains myself and they are very beautiful. All very high peaks have tall pines and high ridges. It’s a very beautiful part of Wyoming. Part of the book is also set in Billings, Montana while Joe is in the hospital after an altercation with the brothers.
The main conflict in the book is two brothers living in the mountains. No one knew that they were living there. And after Joe meets them, it opens up a new mystery. Why do they live in the mountains alone? The story’s twist is settled when Joe and his friend Nate Romanowski reunite with the brothers after the twins kill most of the agents from Michigan and injure a sheriff. With Joe nimbly moving towards the brothers with shotgun in hand and Nate hiding in the trees to the left of the twins with .454 rifles…you have to read the story and find out how it ends. how.
Overall, this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. This is the first C.J Box book that I read and I hope to read more of his books.
