Party Hard is the first science fiction book in the Pixel Dust series by author David Petrie.
For lifelong friends Max and Kira, Carpe Noctem has become a second home. Max spends his time as a gunner Fury, which can deal massive damage in a short amount of time, while his teammate Kira the Breath Mage watches over him and keeps his health up. he is always at his best. Together, they form a formidable combination. A dream team literally, because before the game hit the market, the average person had spent a third of his life sleeping. Now sleep is only seen as the door to the game.

Dreams don’t last forever.

After being fired, one of the creators of Noctem began working on a plan to bring the system down and plunge the real world into economic ruin. To prevent the fall, Max and Kira must gather their most trusted friends and embark on a quest that will test their absolute limits.

If they want to save the world they hold dear, they’ll have to push their team through the nightmares that await them.

A really lovely book and I mean that as a compliment. The premise is pretty simple, a VR-esque game with a glitch. The environment is the standard imaginary environment. But where this book shines is the relationship between the characters and the unique sci-fi concepts. The characters form a comradeship rare in books and make you really bond with them and their challenges. And sci-fi concepts are the hobby, with significant changes to the standard game document format. Definitely worth checking out.
