Prince has no value

Brishen Khaskem, the prince of Kai, has lived contentedly as an unnecessary backup heir to the repeatedly secured throne. A commercial and political alliance between the human kingdom of Gaur and the kingdom of Kai of Bast-Haradis requires him to marry a Gauri woman in order to sign the treaty. Always a filial son, Brishen agrees to marry and discovers his bride is as ugly as he expected and more beautiful than he could have imagined.

Noble woman doesn’t matter

Ildiko, the granddaughter of King Gauri, has always known that her only value to the royal family lies in a strategic marriage. Accepting her fate, she is horrified to learn that her intended groom is not only a foreign noble but also a young prince of a people neither known nor human. Tied to her new husband, Ildiko will leave behind all she knows to embrace a man shrouded in darkness but whose soul is forged by light.

Two people met by the pitfalls of duty and politics will discover that they are destined for each other, even as the forces of a hostile kingdom conspire to tear them apart.

Radiance has a very traditional fantasy feel to it; We have a princess, Ildiko, in a wonderland, who is about to marry a neighboring prince she has never met before. From there, however, the novel moves away from the typical arranged marriage fantasy story.

Ildiko was the granddaughter of the king and queen, therefore had no important role in the succession, so a marriage was arranged for her to forge an alliance with a neighboring kingdom. However, this neighboring kingdom is not inhabited by humans but Kai’s; a people with gray skin, white eyes, sharp teeth and claws.

It was Brishen, the second son and therefore not of equal importance to the succession, whom Ildiko was about to marry and, being two completely different species, both felt disgusted with each other.
