This book is full of fun and nonsense. Going into it, I’m somewhat biased. I mean, really, it’s a fantasy story about a teddy bear. Totally my thing! I’ve always been afraid that I might get too excited about a book and it would disappoint but this book was a hit and now I can’t wait to get my hands on a second book.
The film is about a teddy bear who is turned into a toy elf by a witch.

The wizard thinks his experiment has failed, and before he can do anything about it, his daughter takes the bear for her own, naming him Threadbare. From there, the bear’s entire mission is to protect this girl. As he learns life and all it consists of, he will increase his level and experience points. This hits the heart of any gamer for D&D fans out there. He is constantly improving as he learns but so are the people around him. There is also the issue of hit points being taken away, the quest to increase stamina and heal the owner. The adventure begins gently enough. I thought it could easily be a young adult book but then it gets darker and the missions get more sinister. So it’s definitely an adult adventure with just one adorable teddy bear.

This reminds me of what would happen if The Velveteen Rabbit and The Princess and the Goblin had babies.

It reads a bit like both in its language. A kind of fairy tale prose that probably sounds best in sound. Not my favorite these days, but other story attributes like creativity, plot twists, orcs, dwarves, and other high fantasy characters work great.
