The Distant Hours By Kate Morton – Audiobook Online
The Distant Hours by Kate Morton is a gothic mystery novel that follows the story of Edie Burchill, a young woman who inherits a mysterious letter that leads her to visit Milderhurst Castle. There she meets the elderly Blythe sisters, Persephone, Seraphina and Juniper, who were once famous for their father’s literary works.
As Edie delves deeper into the sisters’ lives, she discovers dark secrets and hidden tragedies in their past that have haunted them for decades. The novel explores themes of family, love, loss, and the power of storytelling, as well as the impact that war can have on one’s life.
Through her journey, Edie uncovers a shocking truth that not only changes her perception of the Blythe sisters but also her own family history.
The book is beautifully crafted with intricate plots and vivid descriptions of the English countryside and the castle itself, which serves as a central character in the story. The Distant Hours is a gripping tale that keeps readers engaged until the very end.

Edie Burchill and her mother had never been close, but when a long-lost letter arrived one Sunday afternoon with the return address Milderhurst Castle, Kent, printed on the envelope, Edie begins to suspect that her mother’s emotional distance hides an old secret.
Evacuated from London as a 12-year-old girl, Edie’s mother is mysteriously chosen by Juniper Blythe and taken to live at Milderhurst Castle with the Blythe family: Juniper, her twin sisters, and their father, Raymond.
Fifty years later, as Edie pursues the answer to her mother’s puzzle. She is also attracted to Milderhurst Castle and the eccentric sisters Blythe. Now the women are old, all three still living together, the twins are taking care of Juniper, whose fiancé abandoned her in 1941 has driven her crazy.
Inside the decaying castle, Edie begins to uncover her mother’s past. But there are other secrets lurking in the stones of Milderhurst Castle, and Edie is about to find out more than she expected. For the truth of what happened in the distant hours waited for someone to find it for a long time.
I have listened to all of Kate Morton’s books and they are all equally excellent. Her ability to build characters, and move the listener/reader from the past to the present is superb. I would highly recommend her books to everyone.
