“The Dowry” by Charles Lamb is a short story about a poor young couple, Leonard and Susan, who are in love but cannot afford to marry due to their financial limitations. Susan’s father offers a dowry of 500 pounds to Leonard as a condition for their marriage, even though he has no intention of giving them the money. Leonard takes the dowry and tries to use it to improve his financial situation, but is unsuccessful. In the end, he returns the money to Susan’s father and the couple marries with the bare minimum they have. The story explores themes of love, money, class, and family relationships.

The recently divorced Robert Garrison was looking for a fresh start in life when his real estate agent led him down the back streets of Florida in search of a new home. As a Middle East veteran, he was looking for a project where he could lose himself.

She longs for a place where she only needs to worry about herself and her future. There was a new house built by the river where she could live and love, a gift from her father, her dowry.

This book is a love story that transends time and has a happily everafter begining at it’s end.
