The Garden Of Promises And Lies / A Novel Found Things Series, Book 3 – Audiobook Online
The Garden of Promises and Lies is the third novel in Paula Brackston’s Found Things series, following the adventures of antique shop owner Xanthe Westwood. The novel opens with Xanthe and her mother, Flora, discovering a beautiful embroidered coat at an estate sale. Intrigued by the coat’s history, Xanthe decides to delve deeper into its origins by traveling to an old English manor house where it was first created. As Xanthe explores the manor house and its gardens, she begins to have eerie visions and experiences that connect her to the coat’s original owner, Lady Wellesley. She learns that Lady Wellesley was a skilled gardener who faced many challenges and injustices in her life, including the theft of her prized flower bulbs and her unrequited love for the manor’s owner. As Xanthe unravels the mystery of Lady Wellesley’s past, she also confronts her own complicated relationships and struggles. She must decide whether to forgive her ex-boyfriend, who betrayed her trust, and navigate her growing feelings for Samuel, a local bakeshop owner. The Garden of Promises and Lies is a captivating blend of historical fiction, romance, and magical realism. It has been praised for its lush descriptions of English gardens, its strong feminist themes, and its engaging characters.
The Garden Of Promises And Lies / A Novel Found Things Series, Book 3, Audiobook Online By: Paula Brackston
The third installment of the enchanting series “filled with charm and charisma” will make “Outlander fans delighted!” (Women’s World Magazine).
The second novel by New York Times best-selling author Paula Brackston in the Found Things series, Secrets of the Chocolate House, is called “the time-swapping romance [that] would please.” Alice Hoffman fans” (Publishers Weekly). Now, Brackston returns to the Found Things series with his third audiobook, The Garden of Promises and Lies.
As the winter-holiday bustle of The Foundry gave way to spring, Xanthe was left to ponder the strange events of the past year. While she tries to keep her time-traveling talents a secret from those close to her, she’s forced to take responsibility for inadvertently transporting the dangerous Benedict Fairfax to her own era. Xanthe arrives to see that she must use her skills as a spinner if she and Flora are to be safe and turns to the Spinner book for help.
That’s when a beautiful antique wedding dress sings for her. Realizing that her dress and her rival have some connection, she answers the call. She found herself in Bradford-on-Avon in 1815, as if she had stepped into a Jane Austen story.
Now in Xanthe’s time, Fairfax is threatening Xanthe to help him carry out his evil deeds and prove all too clearly how much damage he can do. As Fairfax grows stronger and stronger, Xanthe enlists the help of her boyfriend, Liam, to take him back in time with her. It’s a decision that can guarantee her victory over her enemies, but only by putting her life – and his – on the line.
I have read all the books in this series and book 3 did not disappoint. The main character remains true to her personality. In this niche, she has gained more confidence and is willing to risk trying new ways to travel through time. Her love interest becomes more serious even though she has put her new love in jeopardy. I love everything about this book. The ending opens up the possibility of another time-traveling faction, and there will certainly be another book following The Garden of Promises and Lies.
This is the best story I’ve ever heard. Though intricate and detailed, Miss Brackston did not lose me once. I have listened to all three books in this series over and over. Regency’s dialogue is a bit rough, but the story is so good and the narrator is so great, that’s probably part of the story. Must listen.
