It is a captivating story that revolves around the lives of three individuals who are brought together on Block Island, a small community off the coast of New England. The story begins with Anthony Puckett, a famous author who is struggling to write his next book. He decides to spend the summer on Block Island in hopes of finding inspiration. There, he meets Joy Sousa, a single mother who works as a waitress at the local diner. Joy is trying to rebuild her life after a difficult divorce and is determined to provide a stable environment for her teenage daughter, Lu.

As Anthony settles into island life, he becomes acquainted with Lu and her group of friends, including Riley and Val. The teenagers are dealing with their own personal struggles and secrets. Overall, The Islanders is a thought-provoking and heartwarming novel that delves into the intricacies of human relationships. It explores themes of love, friendship, and the power of community, making it a compelling read for fans of contemporary fiction.

Anthony Puckett is a rising literary star. The son of a hugely popular horror writer, Anthony’s debut novel spent two consecutive years on the bestseller list and won critical acclaim. But something is wrong with his second work. Now Anthony is borrowing an old college friend’s dilapidated beach house on Block Island in the hopes that solitude will help him return to the man he once was.

Joy Sousa owns and operates Block Island’s favorite sponge cake cafe. She came to this quiet space 11 years ago, recently divorced and has a young daughter, and built a life for them here. For customers and friends, Joy is a role model of independence, hard work and happiness. And mainly her. But this summer she lost her balance. A food truck of a famous brand in New York City is circling the island, selling snacks – and threatening her business.

Lu Trusdale is spending the summer on her husband’s dime, living on Block Island with her two young sons while her surgeon husband visits a mainland hospital. When Lu’s second son was born, she and her husband made an agreement: He would go to work and she would quit her job as a lawyer to stay home with her sons. But a few years ago, Lu quietly began working on a private project that was increasingly demanding her time. Torn between work and family, she begins to question the deal she’s made.

In the short 12 weeks of summer, these three strangers will meet and become close, will share secrets and bury lies. And when the promise of June turns into the chilly nights of August, the truth will come out, forcing each of them to decide what they value most and what they are willing to give up in order to keep it there.

I really enjoyed every chapter. I so hope that there is a book number two from Block Island with the same group of characters. Feel like their family.
