Perfect for fans of Kelly Barnhill and Robert Beatty.
Forced into exile on an enchanted island in motion, former princess Noa Marchena has two missions: reclaim her family’s stolen throne, and ensure that the dark forces that her brother take Her, Julian, possession does not fall on his head in the process. But between taking care of her annoying little sister Mite and keeping an eye on the pie-loving sea monster guarding the moving island, Noa has plenty of work to do.
When the brothers learn that their enemies are searching for a weapon capable of defeating Julian – whose legendary magic terrifies the kingdom – once and for all, they vow to get it first. To everyone’s surprise, the key to victory turns out to be a long-lost magical language – and only Noa can speak it.
But if she helps her brother, what if Noa loses him?
This book is about magic, the battle to regain the stolen kingdom, and most importantly, the relationship between the three siblings.
I love this book. I expected to enjoy it, because I recently read and enjoyed Heather Fawcett’s other middle school book, Ember and the Ice Dragons, and I was not disappointed. I love the characters in the book, each with their own quirky personalities, and I love unusual magic, such as most of the story taking place on a magical moving island that can move like a ship and all the cats on it. The island is invisible so they can get into more trouble than cats usually do.
This is just a very good book, and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
