The Last to See Me By M Dressler – Audiobook Online

The Last to See Me is a novel written by M Dressler. It is a ghost story that explores themes of love, loss, and the lingering presence of the past. The book follows the story of Emma Rose Finnis, a young woman who died over a century ago but remains trapped in the house where she lived.

Emma’s spirit has been haunting the Finnis House for years, unseen and unnoticed by the living. She watches as different families come and go, their lives intertwining with her own tragic history. The house itself becomes a character in the story, with its creaking floors and hidden secrets.

As the narrative unfolds, Emma’s past is revealed through flashbacks. She was a servant in the Finnis household, working for a wealthy family who treated her with kindness and respect. However, her life took a dark turn when she fell in love with Benjamin Brownley, the son of her employers. Their forbidden romance led to tragedy, and Emma’s life was cut short.

Despite her death, Emma’s spirit remains tied to the house. She longs for closure and resolution, hoping to find peace in letting go of her past. When a new family moves into the Finnis House, Emma becomes drawn to their daughter, Lily. As Emma tries to communicate with Lily, she discovers that she possesses a unique ability to see and interact with ghosts.

Emma forms an unlikely bond with Lily, who becomes determined to help her find peace. Together, they uncover the truth behind Emma’s death and confront the lingering secrets of the Finnis House. As their connection deepens, both Emma and Lily must confront their own fears and learn to let go of the past.

The Last to See Me is a haunting tale that delves into themes of love, loss, and redemption. It explores the idea that our actions in life can have lasting consequences even after death. The novel combines elements of mystery, romance, and the supernatural to create a compelling and atmospheric story.

In a small logging town in northern California, young Emma Rose Finnis was born and died. Now, no one remembers her industrious life and great dreams – but she does. She remembers everything. Emma Rose is still here, a hundred years after her death… and she has no intention of leaving.

But when a determined hunter arrives with instructions to “clean up” Emma Rose from her haunting, stately Lambry mansion, sudden death isn’t the worst fate imaginable. Emma Rose refuses to be hunted from the only place she’s ever found peace, even if that means waging war on the living…and the dead.

Lyrical and haunting, this enchanting American ghost story alternates between Emma Rose’s life and afterlife as past and present intertwine into a gripping tale of loss, love and persistence for more than a century of formation.

I was hooked from the very beginning. Lauren Ezzo presents this unique, well-written story with captivating nuance. Ezzo is a master storyteller, combining the art of pauses, silences, and character descriptions to perfection. Skillfully written, M. Dressler celebrates the wisdom of readers and listeners. This is possibly the best audiobook I have had the pleasure of hearing in the past few years. A true delight, a work of art, this is a must for every library.

For me, the performance of the reader will make or break the book. This book captivated me immediately. I loved the unique perspective of the story and the depth of the characters brought to life by Lauren Ezzo’s amazing performance.
