The Ministry For The Future – Audiobook Online By: Kim Stanley Robinson
Legendary science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson offers a remarkable vision of climate change in the coming decades.
Set for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a post-apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is near to us – and in which we can overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.
This is a novel that is both instantaneous and powerful, despairing and hopeful in equal measure, and one of the most original and powerful books ever written on climate change. .
One of Barack Obama’s favorite books of 2020.
“If I could get policymakers and citizens everywhere to read just one book this year, it would be Kim Stanley Robinson’s Ministry for the Future.” (Ezra Klein)
“The best sci-fi-nonfiction novel I’ve ever read.” (Jonathan Lethem, Vanity Fair)
“A breathtaking look at the challenges our planet faces in all their vastness and also in humanity’s intimate, private moments.”
I love the detailed ideas on how to tackle the climate crisis. It’s a notebook. I know it’s fiction but can serve as a launch pad for reality. I also like the characters because it keeps me invested in the story. I read this when India was in the midst of a covid crisis and a heat wave killing so many people seemed unbelievable. We need to act now.
Robinson manages to write a work of fiction that is somehow more radically meaningful than excellent works of nonfiction detailing the climate crisis, in part because he tries to imagine not Not doomsday scenarios, but popular ones instead. Imagination in a way that feels real, ambitious, and somehow dreamlike at the same time, Ministry for the Future tells a piece about the world yet to come exploring intriguing concepts and possibilities. But it never strays from the vital human factors of loss, life, and a profound urge to move forward.
