This is fantastic! Love all the different characters and their POVs. The world is incredibly unique and the story is captivating. It’s surprising to see how entangled the stories of the different characters are. Despite the obvious dangers, this is an extremely humorous and quirky book, truly a fantastic high fantasy work!

There are so many things to love about this book. Essentially, I would describe it as “Shannara meets Indiana Jones meets Lord of the Rings”. Williams’ writing style is very intricate and atmospheric. Most chapters begin with a diary entry or a snippet of a personal letter – this may sound tedious, but they are crafted perfectly and either satisfy questions raised in previous chapters or create new mysteries to be explained further within those very same chapters. The world of the Ninth Rain is complex – but explaining it all upfront would be extremely boring. So, approaching it almost like “vocabulary”, we as readers are able to piece together the history of Ebora, Jure’lia, Winnowry, and Ygseril. The world-building is top-notch. It is large in scale and while familiar fantasy tropes are present, it is truly unique and standout. The cities and countries all have their own culture, history, and traditions. The characters are brilliantly crafted, each with their own distinct voice and personality, and their conflicts and goals stem from their backgrounds.
