From the international bestselling author of The Simple Wild and Ten Tiny Breaths, a love story from hate to love gets a new second chance.

Scarlet Reed has returned to Polson Falls, believing that another 12 years is long enough to shed her humiliating childhood status as the daughter of the town prostitute. With a guaranteed teaching job and a lovely fixer to call home, things in her life are finally improving.

That is, until she finds out that Shane Beckett lives next door.

Shane Beckett, the handsome and charismatic high school star quarterback broke her heart. The lying, cheating player, who is believed to be long dead, lives the dream of professional football and fools women into thinking he is the Prince Charming. Shane Beckett, who was as attractive as ever and showed her dimples as if he had done nothing wrong.

Scarlet made it clear that the old wounds had not been forgotten. They may be neighbors, but they are definitely not friends. She won’t allow herself to fall in love with her single dad and firefighter again, no matter how many apologies he makes, how many times he runs to her aid, or how hard he makes her heart beat.

But as she spent more time with him, she began to fear that maybe she was wrong. Maybe Shane has changed.

And perhaps this time she is the one playing herself – there is no chance of achieving real happiness.

Before I went to buy any books, I read the reviews and some of the reviews weren’t very good. That it’s hard to reach or the performance isn’t great, one review said it was unlike any of her other stories and was disappointing. I don’t know what they were talking about but it couldn’t be further from the truth. This story made me curious and wanted more. It did not disappoint. Now this is her first book I read and I want to find more and if they don’t like this I’m scared to find out what it’s like but I’ll definitely find out.

The Player Next Door is a second chance romance between single dad Shane and teacher Scarlett as they become neighbors after Scarlett moves back home. They dated the summer before senior year only for Shane to break up with them and get back with her ex, leaving Scarlett heartbroken and ready to leave town. They’re neighbors now and she’s his son’s teacher, making their undeniable connection all the more complicated, especially when you throw in Shane’s ex. Will they be able to find a way to stay together and make everyone happy or will Scarlett end up with a broken heart all over again.
