The Queen of Cursed Things – Audiobook Online

The Queen of Cursed Things is the first book in the Serpents and Kings trilogy. In a world where the Serpent clan has been vanquished and reduced to mere legends, a young woman named Alaya accidentally awakens one of their curses with her hidden Serpent mark. As she sets out to seek the truth about her lost clan and their supposed curses, she discovers a power stolen from the Serpent goddess herself. This power could help her overthrow the tyrannical high king and put a stop to his wars. Alaya’s journey is one of discovery and rebellion as she sets out to reclaim what was taken from her people and expose the truth.

Decades ago, the Supreme King of Sundolia waged a war that defeated the Serpents and drove them out of the empire, turning them into nothing less than legends in the occasional whisper of fear. But they did not go peacefully. Their parting gift included the curses that now lie in the underground of the empire, beneath the shadow of the jungles, stepping over the waves of the sea. More and more slumbering as the years passed under the rule of that increasingly tyrannical supreme king.

Until Alaya – a young girl with a Serpent mark that shouldn’t exist – accidentally awakens one of them. Then another. And suddenly, she finds herself exiled from her adopted village and has no choice but to find the truth about her lost clan and the so-called curse they left behind. About her real home. About a power, stolen from the goddess Serpent herself, is said to rest in that house. It was the kind of power that could help her overthrow a king, expose the lies he told, and end his wars.

The crown prince of Sundolia declares that he wants to end those wars with her. That he just wanted to help her regain that strength so that he could undo the terror his father had created. All they have to do is find a way to trust each other.

I absolutely loved the first season of the Serpents and Kings series! I found myself quickly getting sucked into this world with the characters! I’ve been reading the e-books and was super excited when they came to life. I feel like Jesse did a great job of capturing the emotions and suspense, and at the same time pulling me in deeper. The only reason the performance didn’t get 5 stars was that it was difficult to distinguish the voices of some of the characters until she said who was speaking. Overall, I enjoyed the story and really enjoyed hearing it brought to life. Now, to the King of Burning Skies.
