The Right Stuff – Audiobook Online

The Right Stuff” is a non-fiction book by Tom Wolfe that explores the early days of American space exploration and the lives of the pioneering pilots and astronauts who risked their lives to push the boundaries of human achievement. The book follows the lives of the Mercury Seven, a group of seven military pilots who were selected by NASA to become the first astronauts in space. Narrated by Dennis Quaid, the audiobook brings to life the thrilling and dangerous world of test pilots and space exploration. Quaid’s performance captures the excitement and adrenaline of the pilots, as well as the bureaucratic politics and behind-the-scenes drama that shaped the race to space.

Through in-depth interviews and extensive research, Wolfe takes a behind-the-scenes look at the individuals and institutions that made the space program possible, from the engineers and scientists at NASA to the journalists and politicians who covered and supported the space race. He also delves into the personal lives of the astronauts, exploring their families, their friendships, and the toll that the intense training and high-risk missions took on their physical and emotional health. With its vivid storytelling and fascinating subject matter, “The Right Stuff” is a compelling tribute to the bravery and perseverance of the individuals who dared to reach for the stars.

From “America’s Most Nervous Journalist” (Newsweek) – a breathtaking epic, a magnificent adventure story and an investigation into the true heroism and courage of the first Americans to conquer space. “Tom Wolfe at His Best” (The New York Times Book Review)

Millions of words have flowed about man’s trip to the moon, but so far few have had a feel for the most fascinating aspect of the adventure: namely, what goes on in the minds of the astronauts themselves – in space, on the moon, and even during certain adventures on earth. It is this, the inner lives of astronauts, which Tom Wolfe describes with his almost uncanny ability to empathize that has made The Right Stuff such a classic.
