Unaware of civilization and forewarned of its evils, nineteen-year-old Wren and her two sisters, Sage and Evie, were raised in isolation off the net in a chalet. rudimentary in upstate New York. When the youngest child became seriously ill, their mother left with the child to get help from a nearby town. And they never came back.
Months passed and hope vanished. Low supply. Cattle are dying slowly. A harsh winter is descending. Then the stranger came. He claims to be looking for the girls’ mother and he won’t leave without them.
To escape, Wren and her sister must break the rule they grew up with: never go out of the woods.
Passing the dreaded bush, they came to a house on the other side of the pines. This is when Wren and Sage must confront something far scarier than the unknowable. They will discover what has been hidden from them, what they are running from, and the secrets that have kept them in the dark all their lives.
This book is very good! It has everything I love…mystery, family drama, lovable characters, fast-paced and unexpected. The narration is excellent. My only complaint… it had to end.
This book is classified as a “psychological thriller”. and although I enjoyed it, and had some tense moments, I wouldn’t categorize it as a horror movie. However, this is an interesting story about women who find themselves when they go through a very unusual situation.
I keep checking how much time HPw has left because I don’t want it to end! The story ends beautifully! I liked this story from the beginning and it kept my interest until the end. I absolutely love the storytellers as well. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers and mysteries.
I’ve been feeling down lately so I thought I’d listen to a book this morning. I’ve had this in my library for a while but I keep ignoring it. Maybe it’s the cover art or the title? I do not know. But GREAT! I can’t pause it or stop it. I bring it into the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen… wherever I have to do the things it takes with me. I shed my last tears. I know it has to end but I just don’t want it to end yet! I feel so bad because I’ve come up with all sorts of plots or ideas for what happened. And did I completely turn it off? She is a great writer!
