The Terminators (Matt Helm, Book 16) By: Donald Hamilton – Audiobook Online
The Terminators by Donald Hamilton is the sixteenth book in the Matt Helm series, narrated by Stefan Rudnick. This gripping story follows the adventures of secret agent Matt Helm as he races against time to stop a group of terrorists from unleashing mass destruction upon the United States.
The story is set in the late 1960s and focuses on the emergence of a new group of terrorists known as The Terminators. Helm is transferred from his usual duties to work on this case, as he has a reputation for being a tough and ruthless agent who always gets the job done. As Helm races against the clock to stop The Terminators, he navigates a web of deceit, personal tensions, and professional politics. Along the way, he must battle enemies both foreign and domestic, as well as his own fears and insecurities. Stefan Rudnick’s narration is excellent, and he flawlessly brings Hamilton’s characters to life. His voice is authoritative and engaging, especially during the action scenes, and he captures the tone and atmosphere of the story perfectly. Hamilton’s writing is highly entertaining, and the story is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of plot twists and turns to keep the listener engaged. The characters are well-drawn, and despite its dated setting, the story feels relevant and provocative.
Overall, The Terminators is an excellent addition to the Matt Helm series and a thrilling listen for fans of action and spy novels. With Rudnick’s narration and Hamilton’s writing, this audiobook guarantees to keep you hooked until the very end.

“I can’t kill you. If I do that, Mac will send executioners, extermination teams…”
When the big guy in Washington assigns Matt Helm to ride a shotgun on a top secret mission in Norway, Helm wants to know why. But this is a must-know deal, at least until his partner – a woman posing as his mistress – is killed. Helm was mad now – mad enough to blow the campaign up in the air.
Another very good, rather complicated adventure for Hamilton in the mid-1970s. This time, Helm is in Norway in the fall, on loan because of his deadly reputation. That causes some problems, of course. Not everyone is as impressed as they should be. Who’s the good guy and what’s going on isn’t really clear until the climax ends.
As usual, the descriptions of the area are very good, providing just enough detail without bogging the story down. Some World War II history is included, but Hamilton left the door open to Helm’s involvement. Current problems are the oil crisis with long lines at the pumps or even a complete lack of fuel. It brings back a lot of memories of the time.
Hamilton also talks about safety devices, especially in cars, a topic close and dear to my heart. The idea of ‘safety first’ only emerged when cars began to have all kinds of warning devices. His observations were spot on.
Of course, this trend has grown and spread until some tools have become practically useless, requiring customers to modify them so that they perform their original function, if possible.
