Just Ignore Him – Online Free Audiobook

Just Ignore Him is a beautiful book by author Alan Davies.
The story of a life built on sand. In this gripping memoir, comedian and actor Alan Davies recalls his teenage years with vivid insight and devastating humour. Transitioning between the adulthood of the 1970s and his life, Davies has always transitioned profoundly from innocence to experience to hindsight clarity.

From his sibling dynamics, to his voiceless, misunderstood growth in school, sex and embarrassing ‘accidents’, Davies lives on in his childhood mind. with breathtaking precision, clearly evoking an era when Green Shield Stamps, Bob-a-Job Weeks and Whizzer & Chips loomed large, bus fare was 2p – and kids had very few rights strength in the face of adult motivation. Extremely tender memories of the mother he died when he was six years old, of a family with a lost person struggling to find their way, of the impatience and confusion of adolescence.

The joyful and innocent memories, the pain of lifelong grief, and the profound betrayal of Davies remain unfiltered and beautifully expressed.

Davies was trying to make a story hard to read, which was not easy. I had to read it in parts because the honest depiction of a difficult childhood filled with mind games and abuse was not easy to absorb. There’s a mix of humor and deep reflection on the events. Many times I felt like some cold hand was squeezing my heart.

Davies gives you a good sense of the situation and the context of the actions. He conveys the feeling of a child trying to figure out what is what and why. Society doesn’t really protect children from their parents when necessary, and it doesn’t allow them to admit the truth about their abuse. Everything is recorded and no one believes the child.

The happy thing about this story is that Davies was heard. The abuse he suffered was officially recognized when he reached the officials as an adult. It was too late to help him as a child, but he was still heard. His truth was acknowledged. And that is a rare thing. A rare thing. It wasn’t an easy story for him to tell and it wasn’t easy for anyone to read. There is no easy solution, but society needs to do better.
