My grandmother passed away in November 2020.
She had four children, ten stepchildren, and about 45,000 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but I felt a closeness to her that was only for me. It’s small, but it’s mine.

This book is a distilled, exaggerated, and enhanced version of that closeness. Oh to have a lot of stories. So many lovely, private memories. I wish I could retain more of my grandmother’s voice. I envy Bess Kalb as much as I understand how great her loss must be. To be completely wrapped up in someone destined to die before you is a cruel blessing.

The writing, story, pacing and vocals of this piece are phenomenal. I want to buy a dozen books for my mother, sister, aunt, and cousin who are all facing their own losses.
