Notre-Dame A Short History of the Meaning of Cathedrals – Audiobook Online

Notre-Dame is an art book by author Ken Follett.
International bestselling author Ken Follett describes the emotions that enveloped him when he heard the news of a fire that threatened to destroy one of the world’s largest churches – Notre-Dame de Paris. Follett then tells the story of the church, from its construction to its role through time and history, and reveals Notre Dame’s influence on cathedrals around the world and on writing one of Follett’s most famous works. favorite novel, The Pillars of the Earth.
Ken Follett will donate the proceeds of this book to the charity La Fondation du Patrimoine.

This is a moving response to the terrible events surrounding the (nearly) demolition of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. The personal impact on the author – a man known for his devotion and understanding of the cultures of the world’s cathedrals – is clear and palpable to the reader. In a short essay he is able to convey the meaning and importance of the cathedral (this church and indeed all such constructions) to the human mind and heart.

Being very familiar with longer, longer books on the history of cathedral building, I was a bit surprised at the brevity of this book (just hoping for more information, I guess). The addition of artwork and knowing that proceeds will be donated to the rebuilding effort almost make up for the disappointment.
