Sadie A Novel By: Courtney Summers – Free Full Audiobook
Sadie is a mystery novel by author Courtney Summers.
An innovative audiobook product featuring over 30 voices, Sadie explores the depths of sisterly love.
A girl gone missing on a quest for revenge and a Serial podcast that follows the clues she left behind.
Sadie didn’t have an easy life. Growing up alone, she is raising her sister, Mattie, in an isolated small town, doing her best to bring about a normal life and keep them on the water.
When Mattie is found dead, Sadie’s whole world falls apart. After several failed police investigations, Sadie is determined to bring her sister’s killer to justice and sets out to follow the few clues to find him.
When West McCray – a radio personality working on a segment about forgotten small towns in America – overhears Sadie’s story at a local gas station, he becomes obsessed with finding lost Girl. He started his own podcast following Sadie’s journey, trying to figure out what happened, hoping to find her before it’s too late.
Courtney Summers’ Sadie has thrust and clutter and will keep listeners hooked until the very last track.
Courtney Summers does something uncomfortably precise with this book. She perfectly captures the reality of missing girls, it’s easy to glance at the monsters in our midst and above all, the devastation when searching for answers about the loved ones you have may never be found. It’s painfully realistic, the characters are incredibly well-built, and the unique approach is engaging.
Sadie’s sister dies, murdered with a baton to the head, and Sadie’s world is turned upside down. Mattie has been her sole responsibility since her deadlocked mother got mad and left them, and so it makes perfect sense that Sadie feels the need to relentlessly hunt down her killer.
The story is cleverly conveyed through Sadie’s chapters and interspersed with a podcast called The Girls when Sadie is also reported missing. The podcast’s radio host, after being tipped off by Sadie’s surrogate grandmother, tracks down Sadie and tries to find her before something terrible happens to her while Sadie tries. find the man she was about to kill. This mixed media approach really works, it makes the situation real with representations from the missing girl but also from the general public and the media who disclose information to them when they discover new things. Readers often see a point of view; to see the two run side-by-side adds a new dimension to the genre that is indispensable in similar novels.
Sadie is a stubborn, headstrong and fearful teenager and her narrative voice is easy to understand. I like that she has equally vulnerable and aggressive parts, with a stutter that embarrassed her and quickly shoved in her pocket to stash a knife. I think she probably represents so many families grieving, desperate and heartbroken over their loss while angry that the person who killed their loved one is still alive. I think Summers created Sadie perfectly; I took great care of her and really felt like I understood her motives.
