Sleep Like the Dead By: Alex Gray – Online Free
Sleep Like the Dead is the eighth mystery novel in the DSI William Lorimer series by author Alex Gray.
A Glasgow assassin: unpaid and enraged, he decides to settle his own debts….
Elsewhere in the city, Marianne Brogan could not sleep. She is haunted by a nightmare: someone in the dark, whispering threats, stalking her every move. Worse still, Marianne couldn’t keep her brother, Billy. Despite knowing some shady characters from Glasgow’s underworld, Billy has always been by her side – until now.
DCI Lorimer and his team face a string of unrelated but professional murders. With no witnesses or much evidence to build a case, officers are drawing a void. Criminal psychologist Solly Brightman was not involved in the case due to budget cuts. But Solly is more connected to the murders than he might know….
As the killer plots a bloody ransom for his compensation, the race begins to find out who hired him – and who is next on the hit list.
Would love that there are plots of land within plots. The characters are very complex.
Favorite Characters: DCI Lorimer and Detective Constable Frothy. Solly also approached. Why? They are motivated and compassionate. Smart and kind. Empathy and fairness. They want justice no matter where it leads and are blind to any prejudice that may be there. It is demanding justice for the victim and finding the truth.
Lorimer and his staff are on the hunt for the killer. But it seems that there are many seemingly unrelated murders committed by the same person. While trying to figure out why they stumbled upon clues leading to the past and unwitting Solly. While this is going on, we get some personal situations as well as notes about Frothy, Lorimer and his wife’s relationship and what she’s going through and the Hundi people.
I always check my Kindle Daily Deal and as a lover of crime fiction I thought I would give this novel a try. I don’t read any of Alex Gray’s books; but will definitely look for more.
In my opinion, it is well crafted and attractive. I especially liked the story flowing from the perspective of the different characters. I don’t always like; but, for me, it works in this book.
Can’t say more than I read the last chapters too late last night!
