The Constant Rabbit / A Novel – Audiobook Online

The Constant Rabbit / A Novel, Audiobook Online By: Jasper Fforde

“Reads like a crazy cross between Watership Down and Nineteen Eighty-Four.” (Guard)

A new independent novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Early Risers and the Next Thursday series.

UK, 2022. There are 1.2 million human-sized rabbits living in the UK. They dressed and were able to walk, talk, and drive a car, the result of an inexplicable Spontaneous Personification Event 55 years earlier.

A family of rabbits is about to move to Many Hemlock, a cozy little village in Central England, where life revolves around summer festivals, jam making, corner shops gossiping and the endless Spick & Span prizes, important for the most well-kept village.

As soon as the rabbits arrived, the villagers decided they had to leave, citing their tendency to burrow and breed as well as their shameless vegetarianism.

But Mrs. Constance Rabbit was the stricter one, and she and her family decided to stay. Unusually, their neighbors – Peter Knox, longtime resident, and his daughter, Pippa – decide to side with them… and soon discover that you can either be a friend of a rabbit or a human, but not both. With a blossoming romance, profound cultural differences, the forced move to MegaWarren in Wales, and the full power of the UK’s ruling Anti-Rabbit Party against them, Peter and Pippa about to question everything they’ve ever thought about their friends, their lives. countries and their species.

An inimitable blend of satire, fantasy and thriller, The Constant Rabbit is the latest brilliantly original foray into Jasper Fforde’s astonishing creative genius.

I don’t know where Fforde keeps coming up with his ideas! At first I was confused about the anthropomorphized rabbits but as the story progressed, I realized that I just had to pause my skepticism and get on with it. I was really sad at the end, which never happened to me after reading a book by Fforde. I think the narrator really brought the characters to life. Looking forward to what he comes up with next.

If you like anything by Jasper Fforde, you’ll really enjoy this book. The story takes place in a backward near future, complex and detailed. It is very critical of people and the modern world, but also emotionally appealing. I really didn’t see the ending coming and was in tears at the end.
