The Girls Weekend / A Novel, Audiobook Online By: Jody Gehrman
June Moody, a 30-year-old British professor, just wants to get rid of a recent breakup and reunite with her girlfriend over the summer holidays.
Her old friend and longtime nemesis, Sadie MacTavish, a hugely successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower party at her sprawling estate in San Juan Islands. June is not very enthusiastic about spending time with Sadie and her husband – June’s ex – but agrees to go.
The group begins to shake as old grudges resurface, but when they wake up the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is dilapidated, and blood is splattered all over the stairs. None of them had any memories of the night before; they wonder if they have been drugged. Everyone is a suspect. Since June has a secret date with Sadie’s husband, she has plenty of reasons to doubt herself. Apparently, so are the police.
A twist of Celtic suspense and surprise, this brooding novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden deep in your own past and will make you wonder how much you really understood the people you loved the longest.
I absolutely love this book. I was about to come out of my reading stagnation and this was exactly what I needed. I fell in love with the story. The characters are interesting and the MC is lovingly annoying. The other characters calling her dumb was really impressive because I must have had to sigh “oh my god” at her about 20 times. This is an excellent book. I’m so glad I read it.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. But the main character was bland and annoyed at first, I thought I wouldn’t finish. The characters balance each other. The story itself had major twists and turns. I definitely recommend this if you like mystery.
