The Interlopers
- Matt Helm, Book 12
- Narrated by: Stefan Rudnicki
This time the Mac has gone too far. As for Helm posing as a Communist courier whom he bears no resemblance to is suicide – and that’s not all. Someone wanted the layout of the Alaska Northwest Coast Defense System, but they weren’t the good guys or the bad guys. So who are they? And who is the mysterious Holz that Helm intends to kill?
The Interlopers by Donald Hamilton is a gripping tale of espionage and deception. It explores themes of identity, loyalty, and the blurred lines between good and evil in the world of espionage.
I was a bit amused when some listeners commented that Matt Helm is in the ‘realistic’ spy genre which I think is pretty funny and I’m sure Don H will be reeling in his coffin hearing that. . Stories are always fetched so far, they have the same level of confidence as Bond; the characters are specially made to fit the formula and I’m sure that will never appear in real life – never. Matt himself is really a satirical satire of most of the leading male heroes and anti-heroes of mysteries, spy novels and even Western sagas: and in my opinion these elements is why books are always so entertaining that they never take themselves seriously and never pretend to be different from what they are. They are always interesting stories, the female leads are sometimes annoying but I doubt they were designed to be, and I applaud the imaginative process that created these works for us. Great narration!
