The Little Ships / Alexis Carew, Book 3, Audiobook Online By: J.A. Sutherland
Newly commissioned lieutenant, Alexis Carew, is assigned to HMS Shrewsbury, a 74 – gun ship belonging to New London’s space navy.
She expected Shrewsbury to be sent into action in the war against Hanover, but instead she discovers that she and her new ship are pivotal in a State Department plot to bring the Star system of the French Republic into the war and put an end to the threat of Hanover forever.
This is an entertaining read as well as the previous books in the series. The author has incorporated history and current scientific theory into his plot in one believable story. His characters mature as their experiences and interactions affect them. This along with their quirks and attitudes makes them more real to readers and as a reader I find myself related to them, would love to see what happens next.
This is the third book in an ongoing and fairly new series from a new author. The science of “Dark Space” may be confusing to you, but in the end I just found it odd but interesting. In my opinion, the characters and plot are great and well worth it just to follow the science.
This story picks up a few new characters that I find very interesting, and pushes the whole story forward in a meaningful and interesting way. I can only say that if you like Space Opera, Horatio Hornblower and the cleverly constructed characters or any combination thereof, then the story will totally captivate you. I recommend starting with book 1, then reading book 2 before reading book 3. I’m looking forward to more, hopefully more stories about Alex Carew.
