Book One of this series is excellent. The story line is unique – a mafia daughter who is regularly beaten and raped by her fiancé manages to escape and find a beautiful home to live in, despite the presence of strangers. It’s not simple at all.

There is a lot of sadness and anger in the book, mixed with emerging joy. MCs and their close friends are perverts. They all try in their own (not very successful) ways to survive and conquer their past, but each of them has cracks in their armor.

Some reviewers complained that Book One moved too slowly and that “nothing happened”. In my opinion, that is not the case. I think MCs realize that real love SHOULD happen slowly, taking the time to really get to know each other first, instead of rushing into a carnal relationship. It was that respectful wait that made the male MC’s last romance so precious.

There’s no doubt… there’s some very real suffering in this book, but it’s conveyed in the past tense, through the characters’ respective memories. However, there may be triggers here for people with PTSD or a history of sexual abuse and/or violence. As a survivor, I find the characters’ courage and resilience a source of inspiration and hope.

This book will stay with you, in your head and in your heart. Highly recommended!!
