Dynasty 15: The Reckoning by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles – Audiobook Online

Dynasty 15: The Reckoning is the fifteenth book in the Morland Dynasty series written by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. The Morland Dynasty series is a historical fiction saga that follows the lives of the Morland family through several centuries of English history. Each book in the series focuses on a different period, providing a rich tapestry of historical events and personal dramas.

In *Dynasty 15: The Reckoning*, the story is set in the late 18th century, during a time of great political and social upheaval in England. The Morland family finds themselves caught up in the tumultuous events of the French Revolution and its aftermath. As the revolutionaries across the Channel overthrow the monarchy and execute their king, tensions rise in England as well.

The main characters in this installment of the series are James and Heloise Morland, who are deeply affected by the events unfolding in France. James, a member of Parliament, becomes increasingly involved in political debates surrounding the revolution. Meanwhile, Heloise, his wife, is drawn to the plight of French refugees who have fled to England seeking safety.

As the revolution continues to escalate, James and Heloise find themselves torn between their sympathies for the French cause and their loyalty to their own country. They must navigate treacherous political waters while also dealing with personal challenges within their own family.

Throughout *Dynasty 15: The Reckoning*, Harrod-Eagles skillfully weaves together historical events with fictional narratives, creating a compelling story that captures both the grand sweep of history and the intimate struggles of individual characters. The book explores themes of loyalty, love, and sacrifice against the backdrop of one of Europe’s most significant revolutions.

Readers familiar with the Morland Dynasty series will appreciate how *Dynasty 15: The Reckoning* continues to develop and deepen the ongoing saga of this fictional family. However, the book can also be enjoyed as a standalone novel, as Harrod-Eagles provides enough background information to allow new readers to understand and engage with the story.

In conclusion, *Dynasty 15: The Reckoning* by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles is a captivating historical fiction novel that delves into the impact of the French Revolution on the lives of the Morland family. Through its well-crafted characters and meticulous attention to historical detail, the book offers an immersive reading experience that will appeal to fans of both historical fiction and family sagas.

It was 1816. Napoleon was finally defeated, but the victory did not bring peace to the British. The costs of war were deeply ingrained in the country – inflation raged, demobilized soldiers joined the ranks of the unemployed, wages tumbled and bread prices skyrocketed – and starving men were easily provoked to protest.

In the midst of this chaos, Heloise and James stand to protect Morland Place – for its spirit as well as its good fortune – when a tragic accident strikes at the heart of the family, taking away the one person they all depend on. On top of that, a devastating scandal has brought the Morland name into the spotlight, so Sophie and Rosamund are forced to learn the difference between real love and its fascinating but dangerous illusion.

The Morland Dynasty series is excellent. I recommend starting with the first book and getting “engrossed” in the history, characters, and time period. The stories are mainly based on women, however, the writer’s talent is relevant to the point of view of each moment in British history. Of course, the family grows with children, animals and friends living the same joys, sorrows and everyday events. There are over 30 stories in the series so it’s for the “long-distance” reader – oh, one of these books always accompanies me on vacations or car trips. Morlands is a family that became my friends.

Have read the entire Morland family chronicle and enjoyed all the books. Believe me this is 16th out of 35. There are great characters (some not pretty at all) and I feel like I’m learning a lot about British history. The poor classes are treated so unfairly that I want to read about the positive changes in the next book.

Cynthia Harrod-Eagles is simply amazing. I cannot begin to understand how she has produced such consistently excellent books with so many voices and set in so many eras. The Reckaming continues the story of the Morland Dynasty with all the detail, depth and quality of the previous books in the series. This series is a fascinating contribution to understanding British history and humanity.
