The goat is a lively character throughout the novel, as are the elderly couple, who raise her as their own. The book takes you through rural Tamil Nadu and life there.

The literary world is truly blessed to have a writer of Perumal Murugan’s caliber to enrich our lives in countless ways. His previous books that I have read amazed me with his understanding of female psychology. This book goes one step further in exploring, among other things, the issue of gender through the life of a goat – a must-read. Thanks also to the translator.
