The Transatlantic Book Club is a charming novel by Felicity Hayes-McCoy that tells the tale of a Skype book club that connects the inhabitants of Ireland’s Finfarran Peninsula to a small US town called Resolve, where generations of Finfarran emigrants have settled. The book club brings together a variety of quirky characters, including newly widowed Pat, her adult niece Cassie from Canada, and a host of intriguing locals. When the book club decides to read a detective novel, it exposes old conflicts on both sides of the ocean and brings long-buried love affairs to light. As family secrets are revealed, Cassie fears she may have done more harm than good. Will the truth about Pat’s marriage affect her hopes of finding love? Will Pat have to part with her oldest friend, Mary? Or will the book club lead to a happy ending for everyone involved? Distance makes no difference in love….
Eager to please her newly widowed grandmother, Cassie Fitzgerald, from Canada, convinced the Lissbeg Library to form a Skype book club, linking readers on Ireland’s Finfarran Peninsula to the town of Resolve in Ireland. United States, home to generations of Finfarran immigrants.
But when the club decides to read a detective novel, old conflicts on both sides of the ocean are exposed and mysterious love affairs come to light. As the secrets came out, Cassie feared she might have done more harm than good. Will the facts she reveals about her grandmother Pat’s marriage affect her hopes of finding love? Is Pat, who is still struggling with the death of her husband, about to part with her oldest friend, Mary? Or could the book club itself hold the key to a happy transatlantic ending?
The Transatlantic Book Club continues the story of the inhabitants of the Finfarran Peninsula and introduces listeners to new characters they are sure to love.
This title is irresistible, and it takes place in Ireland! This is the 5th book in the series – how could I have missed the first four? I will definitely return to the Finfarran Peninsula. The novel works independently, but the characters continue from the first four novels, so I look forward to seeing them again in the earlier books.
This is a moving story that takes place in Ireland, with newly widowed Pat, adult niece Cassie from Canada, and a collection of small-town quirky characters. In addition to the library’s new Skype book club between Finfarran and the US town of Resolve, the novel includes family secrets, a bit of romance, a library trailer, and beautiful descriptions about the Irish countryside. I recommend curling up with a hot cup of tea and reading this delightful, comforting book.
