“The Whole Enchilada: A Novel of Suspense” is a crime thriller written by Diane Mott Davidson. The book follows the adventures of Goldy Schulz, a caterer and amateur sleuth, as she becomes entangled in a murder investigation.
The story takes place in Aspen Meadow, a small town in Colorado. Goldy Schulz is preparing for the wedding of her best friend, Marla, when tragedy strikes. Marla’s ex-husband, the notorious womanizer and con artist, Chet Baker, is found dead in his car. Initially ruled as an accident, it soon becomes clear that Chet was murdered.
Goldy finds herself caught up in the investigation when she discovers a threatening note addressed to her friend Marla at the crime scene. Determined to protect her loved ones and uncover the truth, Goldy starts digging into Chet’s past and his numerous enemies.
As Goldy delves deeper into the case, she uncovers a web of deceit and betrayal involving Chet’s shady business dealings and personal relationships. She encounters a cast of suspicious characters including Chet’s new wife, his business partner, and a mysterious woman from his past. With each clue she uncovers, Goldy gets closer to unraveling the truth behind Chet’s murder.
Throughout the novel, Goldy faces numerous obstacles and dangers as she gets closer to the killer. She receives anonymous threats, experiences break-ins at her catering business, and even becomes a target herself. Despite these challenges, Goldy remains determined to bring justice to Chet’s killer and protect those she cares about.
“The Whole Enchilada” combines elements of mystery, suspense, and culinary delights as Goldy navigates through the investigation while also managing her catering business. The book offers a thrilling plot with unexpected twists and turns that keep readers engaged until the very end.
In addition to the main murder mystery, Diane Mott Davidson incorporates mouth-watering recipes throughout the novel. These recipes, often tied to the events in the story, add an extra layer of enjoyment for food enthusiasts and fans of culinary mysteries.
Overall, “The Whole Enchilada: A Novel of Suspense” is a gripping crime thriller that combines suspenseful storytelling with delectable culinary delights. Diane Mott Davidson’s skillful writing keeps readers on the edge of their seats as they follow Goldy Schulz’s journey to uncover the truth behind a murder.
Caterer and detective extraordinaire Goldy Schulz jumps from the frying pan into the fire as she tries to solve a puzzling murder that hits too close to home, in this latest entry in the New York Times bestselling series from “today’s leading practitioners of culinary whodunit” (Entertainment Weekly).
Goldy Schulz knew her food was priceless, but she never expected that one of her best friends would literally collapse when she left the birthday party Goldy catered. At first, everyone assumed that all the fun and excitement of the party, not to mention the sumptuous meals, contributed to her participation. But what looked like a heart attack turned out to be the generous serving of a cold-blooded killer. And the clever culprit is just cooking. When a co-worker – a woman who resembles Goldy – is stabbed, and Goldy is attacked outside her home, it becomes clear that the famous caterer is the main dish on the killer menu. With time running out, Goldy must roll up her sleeves, sharpen her knives, and entertain a devious murderer, before that murderer can serve her coldly.
The Whole Enchilada is an entertaining version of the Goldy Schulz series. Schulz is a caterer with a heart for people, a passion for food, and a knack for solving mysteries. I’m a fan of the series and I’ve read every issue except Crunch Time, which I started but couldn’t finish.
When I started reading WE, it was like chatting with old friends. Goldy’s husband, Tom, and her best friend, Marla, are real, colorful characters who add depth to every scene. They are like comfort food. Mott Davidson knows them well and she portrays Tom and Marla consistently on the page. Goldy’s assistant, Julian, is awesome, but he seems less real and more like a device. Julian is deployed every time Goldy needs to complete chores, prepare meals, wash dishes or carry food from the truck to work. Goldy’s son, Arch, is a typical teenager who often disappears with a friend when Goldy is solving a case.
