This book is imaginative, gripping sci-fi with lovable characters and a strong friendship. Front spoilers. The book is narrated by Esen, an alien with the ability to change form, very young for his kind at just 500 years old or so. There is a strong storyline in which Esen is often in danger. There is a diverse and fascinating range of exotic species. There is something unusual and well done about changing shapes. And on top of that, there’s the friendship Esen forms with the human, Paul Ragem.
