The Silkworm is a crime, detective, and mystery novel authored by Robert Galbraith. In reality, this is the pseudonym of J. K. Rowling. At the time of publishing, that fact wasn’t widely known. Rowling wanted to avoid using her name because she wanted the name of Galbraith to stand on its own merits in the world of crime novels. Robert Glenister is flawless as the narrator of this book. He makes each character stand out with a variety of accents. He has a good range of voice for both female and male characters.
Private detective Cormoran Strike gets called in for another intriguing case. This time, the novelist Owen Quine has gone missing. Initially, Mrs. Quine just assumes that her husband has gone for a few days as he has done in the past. She just wants Strike to go and get her husband back.
As Strike gets investigating, he discovers that Quine had completed a manuscript that features almost everyone he knows in a poisonous light. If it were to be published, many lives would be ruined. Thus, there is plenty of motivation to take Quine down. And then, he does end up dead. Now, it is upon Strike to find the killer and solve the case.
Silkworm is perhaps a grander achievement than the first novel. This is one of the unique revenge tragedies that only a person with extensive English Literature study can write. This novel surely hits differently than the first one. Also, there are quite the gruesome killings in here so be warned.
