Death’s Door/ A Billy Boyle World War II Mystery, Book 7 – Audiobook Online
Death’s Door is the seventh literary fiction book in the Billy Boyle series by author James R. Benn.
Lieutenant Billy Boyle was supposed to rest after the last case. But when his girlfriend, Diana Seaton, a British spy, goes missing in the Vatican where she is working undercover, he insists on being assigned a murder investigation there so he can try to help her.
Benn’s characters in “Death Doors” are all fictional – Billy and his companions, Kaz and Diana – and real. Actor Sterling Hayden appears – as he has worked in practice – as a service affiliated with the OSS and several Vatican officials as actual historical figures. Monsignor Giovanni Montini – later Pope Paul – was the Pope’s Secretary of State under Pope Pius and was in charge of governing when there were difficulties between Germany and the Church.
He, like other Vatican officials, worked with Billy and Kaz when they were both brought into the Vatican to try to resolve the matter of the murder of a boss who worked in admiration. But Billy is also in Rome looking for his girlfriend, Diana, who, while in Rome on his own spying mission, was captured and imprisoned by the Germans.
