In the Dark of War is a social science book by author Sarah M. Carlson.

Dark of War” is a memoir and internal history of the ongoing domestic war in Libya in 2013-2014 narrated by a mid-level CIA analyst stationed there. You’ve got a picture of the situation as it develops, as it is practically understood by the CIA’s independent lowest-level analyst, and you get a large pool of that analyst. It’s not entirely pretty, but understandable, and certainly possible.

I found the book annoying mainly for trivial reasons. The author and CIA reviewers used too many sources and methods. In this book, the case set does not answer the sources; they query their contacts. Job titles like “manager in charge” and “station leader” don’t even appear. Instead of renaming her spooky colleagues in the usual, “Dave, not his real name,” she uses radio call signs: “Dave, not his real name” to “Reebok”. The author’s Christian personality can be obvious and obvious, and there are some really scary, self-righteous passages. Then there’s her puzzling romance, which I really don’t need to hear about.
